I titled this post ‘You Never Know’ because you truly never know where your words, actions, or life can make a difference in the life of another. I’d like to share this story as an encouragement to you: to live your life openly, be generous with words of encouragement, and always be yourself, never apologizing for who you are (flaws and all!).
At the beginning of 2011, I joined Kevin for one of his classes at college. I blogged about it here. I shared that day’s experience on this blog to hopefully be of some encouragement to you, the reader. What I didn’t expect is that one of the readers turned out to be Ilene, the main subject of that post!
Nearly one year later, I received an email saying there was a new comment on the post by Ilene Bezjian, stating, “I stumbled across this blog – you made my day!” Well, as you can imagine, reading that comment made MY day! What an honor to be of encouragement to a woman I so respected and that had spoken such wisdom into my life.
Naturally, I wrote to Ilene to thank her for her comment and expand a little on my original post. From there, we proceeded to exchange a few emails and became fast friends. I learned later that Ilene had stumbled across my post in the middle of a difficult time and it was a reminder to her of the importance of her work, despite its many challenges. It never ceases to amaze me the way God’s timing is so perfect and how He weaves together the stories of our lives into His story.
Ilene, along with her daughter and students from Asuza Pacific, were back here in Sydney this past week. She was once again sharing with the 2nd year students at Hillsong College, so Kevin and I had the opportunity to meet her in-person. Our time together was short, but it definitely won’t be the last. We’ll be passing through LA in April and already have a lunch date planned. I can’t wait!
