three years & counting

On the 8th of January, Kevin and I celebrated 3 years of marriage, which just about marks 3 years of my time in Australia as well (wowsas!). To celebrate, we took a few days to get away to the “rainforest” of Bulli (pronounced “bull-eye”), about 1 1/2 hours south of Sydney. We stayed in ‘The Yurt’, which we found on airbnb.com (our favorite accommodation booking site). The Yurt is a round, standalone mini-cabin with a kitchen and bathroom built in. It was just up the hill behind the owner’s house just minutes from Bulli beach.

A few major perks of The Yurt were the constant sound of nature (although the cicadas could get outrageously loud at times), the barbecue that we used daily and the colorful king parrots that would come around to get an afternoon treat of bird seed.

We were warned beforehand that the crazy cockatoos would try to come and steal the seed from the timid parrots… We were not disappointed. Isn’t it funny that birds people pay money for in the US are pests down under? Gets me every time.

During our few days away, we relaxed and enjoyed just being with each other without distractions or interruptions. For our last day, we decided to spend it at the beach. Bulli had a great set-up with a nice stretch of beach and a saltwater pool just outside of a snack kiosk. We enjoyed a picnic, dip in the pool and reading in our little beach tent for most of the afternoon. Loved being able to just chill and not rush around anywhere. It was a perfect ending to a great little getaway!
